All of this news will make Draplin more upset, but there's more to it than neighborhoods and bike paths. I hated the idea of moving from Burlington and unless this place was 10X better, I would not bother talking about it. PS: I am businessweek.

Clip from BusinessWeek on how down Portland is:

"They don't talk much about declining competitiveness in Portland, Ore., which is enjoying a huge influx of designers, engineers, and entrepreneurs drawn by its funky neighborhoods, miles of bike paths, and recreation options."

http://www.businessweek.com/magazine/content/06_34/b3998442.htm?chan=search

I think you had all of those on your list. Good work.

that's a great F'ing movie. jean-pierre jeunet is the greatest filmmaker of all time.

the hollywood theater played delicatessen when i was out there. laurelhurst theater is prolly the best one for good old school flicks.

we saw a good documentary about senior citizen swingers at the clinton cinema when we were out there. i was sort of graphic, but good. fact: the clinton cinema is the theater in the US with the longest running movie (rocky horror picture show).

i can't believe i spelled bruckheimer correctly. that guy is the greatest tool of all time. he and mark burnett are spreading a lot of shite all over our society.

i also can't believe you missed the FREE showing of the minutemen documentary (we jam econo) that played at the hollywood theater. you're the 2nd biggest tool, after bruckheimer.

have you seen burn to shine 3? it's the music series (from one of the fugazi guys) where they get local bands to play one song in a house that's going to be destroyed. #1 was in DC, #2 was in chicago, #3 was in portland. i haven't seen any, but want to check them out.

i also want to check you out. maybe at your wedding.

portland has ground kontrol. when i first moved to portland, there was a second, smaller ground kontrol on hawthorne, about four blocks from my house. it was heaven. centipede anytime i wanted to play it. alas, it shut down. i'm glad the main one is still there.

portland has about 5 theaters, some quite beautiful like the bagdad, that sell movie tickets for about $3, and hot food and beer that you can comsume during the show. those places also play great older movies like raging bull and delicatessen.

those are only two of the reasons why portland is the greatest of all places.

voodoo doughnuts is a third.

F bruckheimer.
